Volunteers are essential to HOTEL INC. Each year, hundreds of individuals, congregations, businesses, and civic groups provide services to our clients and support our staff. You can explore how you/your group’s needs can best serve using the descriptions below.  If you or your organization is interested in volunteering, please fill out the interest form at the bottom of this page.

Relational Volunteer Roles

Care Giving/ STRAC Financial Assistance: Financial Counselors to remind assisted clients about their Reciprocal Giving hours, to get updates about their progress towards self-sufficiency, and to connect them with any HOTEL INC resources/classes that will encourage their recovery. Interact one-on-one with clients on an “as needed basis” with personal budgeting skills.

Drop-In Center: Maintain kitchen snacks/coffee, laundry unit and provide clients with shower items. Manage the flow of clients and usage of services. Fill basic item need forms for case workers and bring items/forms to the front desk to be processed. Help clients complete intake forms. Train clients in computer skills, resume-building, interview etiquette, etc. Help clients look for jobs/housing online.

Homeless Outreach: Core volunteers with backgrounds in social service, mental health, VA services, housing, or job placement. Volunteers will provide relational support and will connect clients with community resources.

Street Medicine: Assist with client transportation to medical appointments.

Life Classes: Class leaders to teach financial literacy, GED, cooking & other life skills classes.

Office: Front desk volunteers to answer phones, organize files, learn scheduling system, run Manna Mart sign-in, direct clients to correct classes, etc.

Manna Mart: Interviewers needed to meet with clients and complete Intake forms. Ask about the client’s food/housing struggles, then connect clients with HOTEL INC resources.

Chaplains: Must be interviewed for this service role.

Support Volunteer Roles

Drop-In Center: Organize drives for detergent, dryer sheets, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, shaving cream, razors, shower shoes, toilet paper, and toilet bowl cleaner. Create hygiene kits, lunch sacks and winter kits.

Life Classes: Make phone calls to remind those signed up for Life Classes of the class time.

Manna Mart: Shelve food donations and help with Meijer deliveries and sorting.

Food for All Community Garden: Gardeners to plant and harvest produce.

Office: Clerical volunteers needed to input Intake forms, file paperwork, create class schedules, etc.

Piecemakers: Prepare quilts for HOTEL INC clients.

Communications & Design: Promote HOTEL INC’s mission using social media, website management, and graphic design. Click here for more information about this position.
