Communications Intern

Looking to give back with your time and talent? HOTEL INC is in need of a Communications & Design Intern for 2017. This position works directly with HOTEL INC’s Executive Director to promote HOTEL INC’s mission and encourage donations. A successful intern can leave this experience with a rich portfolio of branded pieces, analytic proof of successful social media campaigns, problem-solving abilities in WordPress, and the knowledge that they used their skills and abilities to make a huge difference in the lives of struggling Warren County families.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping HOTEL INC’s website current in photos and information according to the direction of the Executive Director.
  • Writing and scheduling social media posts in advance to promote HOTEL INC events and remind supporters of ways to help.
  • Creating promotional materials for events and advertisements, including t-shirts, social media graphics, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, and more.
  • Strategizing new fundraising opportunities and campaign ideas.

Skills needed include:

  • Familiarity with WordPress or similar CMS
  • Fluency with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Must have own laptop and access to internet and Adobe software.
  • Ability to use graphics, photos, and writing to craft persuasive social media posts that fit among a established tone
  • Firm grasp of grammar, spelling, and concise writing
  • Tasteful eye for design and the ability to follow established brand guidelines.
  • Understanding of production, pre-press, print and web-based technologies
  • Commitment to HOTEL INC’s mission and passion for respectfully assisting impoverished citizens of Warren County
  • Knowledge of photography, PHP coding, Vertical Response, and SEO are not required, but preferred.

Commitment level:

The internship officially begins December 2016 and runs until May 2017, but can be extended. The Communications & Design Intern works mostly remotely, on their own time. There is no weekly requirement of hours, or times required to work in-office. The Intern will need to be able to meet with the Executive Director or a member of HOTEL INC staff at least once a month. The Intern is expected to be very responsive between those meetings, completing tasks requested by email within hours or days that they are requested.
